If you’re participating in the 31-Day Imperfect Action Challenge we mentioned in our newsletter, here’s a small financial habit you can start this week, one that many people find surprisingly helpful.
Choose one day each week and spend just ten minutes reviewing a single financial account.
That’s it. One account. Ten minutes.
This could be a checking account, credit card, or even a payment platform you use regularly. The goal isn’t to analyze everything in depth. It’s simply to stay familiar with what’s happening. To maximize the opportunity, choose one of your higher usage accounts where it’s possible to overlook something.
When you open the account, take a moment to review the most recent activity and ask yourself three quick questions:
Do I recognize these transactions?
Sometimes unfamiliar charges are nothing more than a purchase we forgot about. Other times, they’re subscriptions, auto-renewals, or small fees that quietly continue month after month.
Are any subscriptions or recurring charges no longer needed?
Many services are designed to run in the background. A quick review helps ensure those charges still reflect things you actually use.
Is there anything here I want to follow up on later?
You don’t need to resolve every question immediately. Simply noting something to revisit, perhaps a charge you want to verify or a statement you want to review more closely, helps ensure it doesn’t slip through the cracks.
And that’s the entire exercise.
No spreadsheets or complicated tracking systems. Just a short moment of awareness.
Like many healthy routines, the value comes from consistency, not complexity.
At Assurance Family Partners, this kind of regular attention to detail is part of the ongoing oversight we provide for clients because small things noticed early rarely become big problems later.
